It is every runner’s dilemma: what essentials should I have with me when I run without impeding my stride? In case of an emergency, you’ll probably want your phone, identification, and maybe a credit card or a little cash. I haven’t had to worry about this since my last half marathon in January of 2013. Yet, as I set my goals for the 2016 Houston half-marathon, I’ll have this dilemma again soon. To fix this problem, I set out to find the best iPhone 6 sports armband to help me accomplish my goals and keep my essentials safe.

The best iPhone 6 sports armband

At this point, the Incase Sports Armband is my favorite sports armband for the iPhone 6. Incase is well known as a producer of fine Apple cases and isn’t new to the sports armband category. I’m sure they weren’t the first, but much like their standard cases, they created the best iPhone 6 sports armband on the market. This case improves on the previous generations by combining the best features from the deluxe and regular versions. In typical Incase fashion, you get a well-made, stylish product that should hold up for the life of your iPhone. While not the cheapest available, it’s worth the bills you put down for it and definitely qualifies as the best iPhone 6 sports armband.

The armband comes packaged in an eco-friendly, 100%-recyclable container that rivals Amazon’s frustration free packaging. It’s super easy to access the product. Right away, you will notice one of the new features: the neon accents all over the armband. While I appreciate their concern about running safety, the neon color is barely visible when you actually wear the armband. Don’t let Incase’s stock photos fool you; you’ll see a couple inches of the highlight — max. Personally, I would love to see them take this concept a step further and swap the neon color with the black. If you’ve gone shopping for running shoes, or seen someone running on the street recently, you’ll notice that today’s athletic wear sports loud color combinations. I think Incase should adopt a louder design so I don’t end up in a ditch on the side of the road.

One of the other features that make this the best iPhone 6 sports armband is the tight fit. It helps with the touch sensitivity and makes the armband sweat-proof. Unfortunately, this feature also means you’ll have to remove your iPhone from its normal case before placing it in the armband. Even the slimmest 4mm TPU case would prevent your iPhone from fitting properly. That’s not a deal breaker for me; it’s very common in the sports armband category. The iPhone slides into the armband with minimal effort. The top fastens securely using a high-quality, surprisingly-quiet velcro material. Once in place, you unfortunately lose the ability to use Touch ID (God help you if you have an alphanumeric passcode). Personally, I’ll trade the convenience of Touch ID for the sweat resistance and extra protection.

Placing the strap on your bicep is very easy. Unless the strap is too loose, the band will stay comfortably and securely on your arm during any activity. Incase graciously placed a small hole for headphones and microphone on the top and bottom of the case to accommodate any orientation. I like to keep mine upside down so I can easily see the screen when I raise my arm. That capability was tremendously important in my research; I wouldn’t name this the best iPhone 6 sports armband without it.

Taking the armband off is as easy as slipping it on; however, retrieving the phone from the case takes some maneuvering. I found that pinching the case from the bottom helps to squeeze the iPhone up so you can grab the top and pull it out. Since the front plastic is a thick, rubbery type, you may have to pull up on the front to get it away from the screen.

Overall, I’d recommend this product to any athlete. At this point, I’m confident it’s the best iPhone 6 sports armband. I should also mention that it has a small slot for cash, credit card, and your ID – just in case. I use it for running, yard work, and other chores around the house. It keeps my headphones from tangling and my iPhone safe from the elements.
