Stupid-Proofing Magic Mouse 2 – Apple’s True Intent

By |October 15th, 2015|Categories: Articles, Tech|

Sigh. I thought I finished writing about Apple, especially in terms of coming to its defense. I haven't hidden my disdain for its software, hardware, or strategy choices over the last few years. Throughout that time, I've come to learn why Apple makes some of their odd choices: stupid-proofing. Call Apple a walled garden or a closed box; use whatever metaphor makes sense to you... but understand that Apple's stupid-proofing is what makes them so popular. Stupid-proofing prevents 90% (or more) of [...]

Best Micro SDXC Card for GoPro and other Cameras – 2016 Update

By |October 7th, 2015|Categories: Recommendations, Tech, Technology|

I just recently started riding a motorcycle again after a 10-year hiatus. It's a 2014 C50 B.O.S.S by Suzuki. It's a great bike that's perfect for my needs. I'll write an article on it eventually. Since I have a family I love dearly, I want to be as safe as possible when riding my bike. That means good gear and some tech to help keep me safe. Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting some of my recommended gear here on the site. The first part of that series is the best Micro SDXC card for GoPro a [...]

Lyft Driver Application – Dryving with Lyft

By |September 2nd, 2015|Categories: Articles, Auto, Society, Tech|Tags: , , |

In the "Dryving with Lyft" blog series, I'll be writing about any fun (or not so fun) experiences I have over the next few months. I've been pleasantly surprised by the community Lyft created, and I want to share it with you. It'll hopefully inspire you to sign up with Lyft as a driver or a passenger. Hit the buttons below if you decide to take the leap. Don't sign up without a referral code; you'll lose out on extra money. Disclosure: if you sign up via these links, I get a kickback from Lyft. West Magnolia Trail Review: Off-Road Excursion

By |August 23rd, 2015|Categories: Articles, Auto, Videos|Tags: , , , , , |

Off-Road Excursion is a new series of articles and videos that will cover the best 4x4 trails in Colorado and beyond. If I've taken my 2011 Tacoma on the trail, I'll add it to the site, hopefully with video. I'll only feature the trails I love and call out the trails I don't. In this inaugural episode of Off-Road Excursion, I'm hitting up West Magnolia Trail just south of Nederland, Colorado. West Magnolia Trail - Nederland, CO West Magnolia Trail was an interesting find. I spent a few hours r [...]

Ben Folds Live at Red Rocks – June 21, 2015

By |July 8th, 2015|Categories: Concert Reviews, Music, Videos|Tags: , , |

My wife and I spent our 8th wedding anniversary listening to Ben Folds play a concert with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. I'm a music nerd; the only thing that could've made this better for me would be playing with Ben on stage. That didn't happen, but I really wish it did. Maybe next time, Mr. Folds. Seeing Ben Folds Live at Red Rocks was a dream come true for most of the people there. Seeing him perform with an orchestra took it to a completely new level. This isn't a concert review; you can [...]

Mae at Summit Music Hall with All Get Out, Mike Mains & The Branches – Concert Review

By |June 16th, 2015|Categories: Concert Reviews, Music|Tags: , , , , , |

On June 8, I went to the Mae show to revisit my college days. You can consider this an anniversary or maybe a reunion show that focuses on my favorite Mae album: The Everglow. I'll dive more into Mae's history later; first, I want to talk about the openers. Mike Mains & The Branches were completely new to me. I saw them mentioned on Mae's Instagram account, but I didn't have time to look them up before the show. I'd heard of All Get Out previously and checked out their latest EP before headi [...]

Amaranthe at the Bluebird with I Prevail and Santa Cruz – Concert Review

By |June 13th, 2015|Categories: Concert Reviews, Music|Tags: , , |

On Friday, May 29, I was able to snag a photo pass for the Amaranthe show at the Bluebird in Denver, Colorado. We're going to trim the opener reviews down a bit since we were there for Amaranthe. The tour is over at this point, but check out the photos and look into the bands if you're interested. I do have to say that I was embarrassed (and slightly disgusted) with the KBPI DJs and fans during this show. Willie B and Beardo were at the show to promote I Prevail because they introduced them to t [...]

Kamelot and DragonForce at the Ogden – Concert Review

By |May 29th, 2015|Categories: Concert Reviews, Music|Tags: , , , |

On Tuesday, May 19, I was lucky enough to snag a press pass for the Kamelot and DragonForce concert at The Ogden in Denver, Colorado. Wow, what a show. Both bands came out swinging with epic power metal riffs and amazing vocals. I've loved and listened to both bands for years. If you have a chance to see this show when they come back to the states in November, I highly recommend that you see it. I want to give a shout out to Freeman Promotions for being kind enough to get eciov a press pass. In [...]

Nightwish, Sabaton, and Delain at the Ogden in Denver – Concert Review

By |April 24th, 2015|Categories: Concert Reviews, Music|Tags: , , , , , , , |

On Tuesday, April 21, Sean Caspian and I had the opportunity to see Nightwish at the Ogden Theatre here in Denver. We've both been fans for years and wanted to see their new singer, Floor Jansen, slay some epic vocals. We initially snagged our tickets via Enter the Vault during the pre-order and waited the six months until show time. That was an anxious six months for both of us. As we got closer to the show date, I started asking around for a press pass to do this review justice. Something abou [...]

Five Iron Frenzy with MxPx and The A-OKs: Concert Review

By |April 20th, 2015|Categories: Concert Reviews, Music|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

I'm a little late to the party on posting this concert review, but that's not for a lack of interest on my end. It was a dark and beautiful Denver night, March 13 to be exact. Something amazing happened. Five Iron Frenzy played a show with MxPx. The A-OKs were there too, but they’re relatively unknown and don’t add to my nostalgia for the lineup. Pretty much every Christian kid in the 90s grew up listening to FIF and MxPx. To see them together in concert seemed unlikely, espe [...]

Grand Theft of Mortal Guitar Hero’s Kombat Scroll – GG Episode 6

By |April 18th, 2015|Categories: Gaming, GG, Podcasts, Videos|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

Welcome to GG Episode 6, our gaming podcast here at eciov. In this episode, Sean and Josh talk about Josh's decision to keep Grand Theft Auto off our website. You can read more about that decision here. Ultimately it just comes down to a mutual respect between our readers/listeners/viewers and our writers. We like you and we want you to like us. If you have any questions about this decision, just hit us up on any of our social networks. This is also our first episode doing a livestream for the p [...]

Grand Theft Auto V – Out for PC, but It’s Not for Everyone *Updated*

By |April 13th, 2015|Categories: Articles, Gaming|Tags: , , , |

*Update*  After spending an hour in the game last night, I determined it's impossible for us to maintain a reasonably professional reputation while supporting this game. I haven't played the game in almost two years, but I forgot how reprehensible the game truly is. That said, we've deleted our GTA5 livestream from Twitch and will not add more in the future. We apologize to anyone we may have offended with our previous coverage or our decision to cancel future coverage. How do I start a post abo [...]

Elder Scrolls Online – Armor Dying Tutorial and Crown Store Walkthrough

By |April 13th, 2015|Categories: Gamecast, Gaming, Videos|Tags: , , , , |

As I play through The Elder Scrolls Online, I wanted to create a few video guides that show off some of the less obvious things in the game. Follow the eciov YouTube channel for more content like this. In the video below, I show you how the in-game armor dying system works. The dye stations can be hard to find, but they add a completely new dimension to the look of your character. Personally, I feel like the stock armor in the game is a little boring aesthetically. Unless you get a full set of s [...]

Sony MDR-7506 iPhone Mod for Detachable Cables – Updated 2018

By |April 11th, 2015|Categories: Audio, Do it Yourself, Do it Yourself, Recommendations|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

**2018 Update - Since we produced this article in 2015, there have been many technology shifts. Including the removal of the headphones jack on many smartphones. To account for this, we've added a new headphones recommendation to the site. Check it out here.** After a lot of research, screw turning, and soldering, I'm excited to share the Sony MDR-7506 iPhone mod with you. Let's back up a little bit to explain why I made these headphones iPhone-compatible. To me, "Beats" is a bad word. Dr. Dre w [...]

Elder Scrolls Online – Crafting, Banking, and Recommended Add-Ons – eciov Gamecast Episode 1

By |April 7th, 2015|Categories: Gamecast, Gaming, Videos|Tags: , , , |

I recently sat down with Sean Caspian in the eciov studio to record the inaugural episode of the eciov Gamecast. We'll still be doing our MunnDay@9 gaming podcast like normal, but I wanted to start doing some Twitch live-streaming and game videos for some of my favorite games. The pair of us could cover hundreds of games, but I'm starting with The Elder Scrolls Online since I've been playing it a lot (too often) lately. I will also cover cool games like the Half Life: Update mod that came out [...]
